Total mileage for 2017: 1156.6
This morning's ride was a challenge all its own. Having turned 60 this year, I hold the goal of skydiving sometime this summer to celebrate it. However, I need to lose a bit over 10 pounds yet to get down to their weight limit.
My good ride (the longest year-to-date) last Friday paid off very handsomely with a marked reduction. Then, however, a couple of recent days when I could not ride meant that I put back on nearly all I had lost.
So, after yesterday's long ride brought the weight back down to my lowest point since Christmas, I had hoped to do another long ride today. But, since I successfully went without eating last Friday, I though I'd try the same yesterday, and had virtually nothing except a noontime small fruit smoothie. BIG mistake. As I rode today, it was with great weakness ... I felt as if there was just nothing in the tank.
Consequently, I rode to Marsh Park and then, coming back, turned south and did my loop around Saline High School, and let that be it, completing a very slow ride of 12.4 miles in 1:35. I left a few minutes before 6:00, under beautifully clear skies. The downside of this, however, was that the lack of cloud cover allowed yesterday's heat to dissipate in the overnight hours, so the 50° temperature when I started made my hoodie (with shorts) most welcome. At least by the time I was done, though, it was 54°.
