They're calling for thunderstorms here later this afternoon, so I'm terribly glad I was able to get a good ride in early today. I went out at 8:30, on a 60° spring morning, and rode three consecutive round trips to Marsh Park in 3:13. By the end it had warmed up to 71°, rendering my hoodie quite superfluous.
In recent days, I've been pushing for speed. Today, however, I made the deliberate decision to avoid that issue completely and just ride easily, for pleasure. This resulted in quite a slow average speed (8.1 mph), but I was grateful to be able to find the mental fortitude to go the distance. It was tempting to throw in the towel early and come home and compose, but I reminded myself that if I'm going to do that 250-mile PALM ride in late June, I need to begin building my endurance now, rather than waiting until the last minute.
